A warm and personal history of the changing face of lesbian life and culture in Britain from the 1920s to the 1990s. 16 women from various backgrounds give first-hand accounts in two documentaries, first shown on Channel 4 as part of the ground-breaking 1980’s TV series: ‘Out On Tuesday’, with a Shropshire twist!

Desert Hearts

Desert Hearts

Feature Film: (Sunday 16th October, 13:30 – The Old Market Hall Cinema). Desert Hearts (1985) is our classic choice. Ahead of its time and ‘before lesbian chic’, it was the first feature film to depict a lesbian relationship favourably and, at the time, considered pretty risque! Not to be missed in 2016!

Aligarh

Aligarh

Feature Film: (Sunday 16th October, 15:30 – The Old Market Hall Cinema). The film is inspired by the real life ordeal of 64-year-old Professor Siras (played by Manoj Bajpayee), who was suspended by the Aligarh University for being homosexual.
